Chevrolet Volt has first been announced eight years ago, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Since then it was all good for the first mass produced hybrid manufactured by Chevrolet. They have sold around 19,000 units last year. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt has recently been unveiled and it promises to be better to drive, more comfortable, better looking, but most of all, it promises more miles per gallon.
2016 Chevrolet Volt exterior design
New Volt is a lot different than its predecessor, making it look much older than it really is. Probably the best thing about the design of the new Chevrolet Volt is that it makes different than other cars, but not as much as its predecessor was different, which can also be a good thing. The front of the car looks familiar, especially when you compare it with the new Honda Civic – it appears that the designers at Chevrolet are inspired by the newer models produced by Honda (some experts say that their new Malibu looks a lot like Honda Accord).
The back of the cart is a lot different and it really makes this car look original and unique. According to the manufacturer statement, the whole car was designed to lower the air resistance, which, in return, helps it use energy better and give more miles per gallon. Actually, they have put a lot of thought into fuel efficiency (which is no surprise, since hybrids are all about the fuel efficiency), they have even decided to use tires with low rolling resistance.
Details about interior design
The official images of the car show a black interior with small chrome details (like the chrome line that divides the dashboard in two). The whole interior is similar to the ones that are used in other Chevrolet models (Chevrolet Malibu has practically the same, but it is dual tone, while this is in just one color). The center console is dominated by a large touchscreen display which is used primarily to show energy information, but also for controlling the infotainment system and satellite navigation. Below the display are located buttons for air conditioning. The main difference between this interior and the others used in some Chevrolet models is the digital speedometer in front of the driver.
2016 Chevrolet Volt specs
When it comes to hybrid cars, the engines are the most important. The 2016 Chevrolet Volt will be powered by 1.5l 4-cylinder engine that should produce around 100 horsepower. Like its predecessor, Volt has two electric engines, but the manufacturer stated that they are completely new and more efficient. Combined power output is around 150 horsepower. According to the manufacturer specification, it will be able to do 41mpg on gas and around 102mpg on electricity. The second generation Volt should be able to go from 0 – 60 mph for 8.4 seconds, which is around 0.4 seconds quicker than its predecessor.
Release date and price
Chevrolet has announced that the new model should go on sale in late 2015.The 2016 Chevrolet Volt should start around $27,000, just like its predecessor.
